The Marietta Daily Journal – Thayer edges Pierre in tight Post 2 sprint

SMYRNA — Republican Susan Thayer said her three decades of experience as an educator helped her win a seat on the Cobb Board of Education on Tuesday night.

Of the 24,571 votes cast in the race, Thayer received 12,712 votes or 52 percent over Democrat Kenya Pierre’s 11,859 votes, or 48 percent, for the Post 2 seat, which represents southeast Cobb.

“It was closer than I had hoped, but I’m pleased,” Thayer said.

When 18 of the 19 precincts showed Thayer with a 4 percent lead, Pierre said she wasn’t ready to concede the race.
