The Marietta Daily Journal – Cobb chooses Bob Weatherford takes commission seat by comfortable margin

MARIETTA — After a grueling primary, a tough runoff and a long general election, Republican Bob Weatherford has been chosen to represent northwest Cobb on the county’s Board of Commissioners, defeating first-time Democratic candidate Derrick Crump.

With all precincts reporting, Weatherford garnered 39,693 votes, or 70 percent, while Crump received 16,701 votes, or 30 percent. The district has 105,236 registered voters.

These numbers are considered unofficial until they are finalized by the Cobb Board of Elections.

Weatherford, an alderman for the city of Acworth for 12 years before stepping down to seek the commission seat, said he was humbled and honored to be elected.

“It’s amazing to me that that many people voted for me,” he said from his campaign party at the Earl Smith Strand Theatre in Marietta. “So, I’m really proud.”
