Villa Rica City Council candidates will outline their stances on issues during a candidate forum on Tuesday.
The forum is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Carrollton-Carroll County. It begins at 7 p.m. inside the Holt-Bishop Justice Center, 101 Main St. in Villa Rica.
“This year we are trying something different in that we are not having panelists,” said Robin Collins, president of LWVCCC.
“We are asking for ‘starter’ questions for each forum to be sent to Carrollton@lwvga.org. We ask that contributors give their name and the voting region they are from. We will not use names when we use these questions but we might use the physical location of the voter.”
Questions will also be taken during the forum from audience members who write questions on note cards.
This is a busy election season in Villa Rica — three of the City Council’s six seats are up for grabs.
Ward 4, current held by Patrick Henrickson; Ward 3, held by Rusty Dean; and Ward 5, held by Woody Holland, are open this year. The challengers for the seats are Monroe Spake and Mike Williamson (Ward 4), Dean, Leslie McPherson and Ryan Nickerson (Ward 3) and Holland and Danny Carter (Ward 5).
Perhaps the biggest surprise during qualifying was that Henrickson decided not to seek re-election after a single term in Ward 4, representing Mirror Lake and the city’s Douglas County side.
