A candidate for the Carrollton Board of Education hopes to translate her work in the medical field to exercise both the muscles and minds of children in city schools.

Beth Scholl, a physician assistant working in Tallapoosa, said she would like to see each child as a “whole, healthy child,” one who lives up to full potential.

“If they are to do that, they need to be loved, nurtured, fed both physically and emotionally, and educated — mind, body and soul,” the working mother of two said. “I have a unique view of the needs of children that are outside of education but that actually impact their education a lot, like their health, family situation and socioeconomic status.”

Scholl said all those seemingly disparate strands combine to show “how well children are going to learn,” something she deals with on a daily basis.

The 42-year-old said she’s been “overall very pleased” with the education her children — one a middle schooler and the other in elementary school — have received at Carrollton, but she’s hoping to claim the Ward 2 seat to improve the standards of education for all students.
