Early voting begins Monday – Times-Georgian: News

Carroll County voters can begin casting their ballots Monday for the Nov. 5 election, and for the first time they will have three weeks to cast early ballots in a municipal election.

“Early voting in person starts at 8:30 a.m. Monday,” said county Elections Supervisor Leslie Robinson. “This early voting is available for all county voters. People in the cities have the municipal races, but every single precinct in the county has a ballot, because of the SPLOST referendum.”

Robinson said the special purpose local option sales tax vote will be the only item on the ballot for county voters, and the SPLOST referendum will also be on all city ballots. Sample ballots are available on the county website.

Early voting will be held Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. only at the county elections office on the first floor of the county office building, 423 College St. in Carrollton. The final day to vote early will be Friday, Nov. 1.

“Everybody in all the cities and out in the county must come to this one location to vote early,” Robinson said. “We won’t have any Saturday early voting this election. Saturday voting is mandated when there’s state candidates on the ballot and we will have it in the 2014 elections. However, all the races this year are local.”

Robinson said early voting is becoming increasingly popular, with nearly half of Carroll County voters casting early ballots last year.

“It’s really become more of a voting cycle now, rather than just election day,” she said. “People enjoy the convenience of voting when they like. It says a lot about our culture, with everybody wanting more options.”

The availability of early voting has actually increased voter turnout, Robinson said, and is especially appealing to students and people who travel a lot.
