RN-T.com – Graduation rate SPLOST items top board s agenda

A look at graduation rates for 2013 tops the agenda of the Rome City Board of Education tonight, according to Chairman Cheryl Huffman.

A presentation on student achievement at Rome Middle School is the board’s school focus this month, she added.

The board is scheduled to meet at 5:45 p.m. at its central office, 508 E. 2nd St. The meeting is open to the public.

Also on the agenda is a discussion of the current education local option sales tax, or ELOST — what the school system has dubbed SPLOST III. Collection of the 1-cent tax is set to end in March 2014, but a vote on an extension is planned for the Nov. 5 general election.

Finance Director Steve Atha also is set to present plans for the system’s 2015 capital outlay project application.
