Let’s hope they spellcheck the signs and get it right the first time.
It has been a consolidated university for awhile but Georgia Regents University could be getting new signs that show that in coming months.
A University System of Georgia Board of Regents committee approved GRU’s request for the new signs on Tuesday and the full board is expected to take it up Wednesday.
The university and its health system have a budget of $3.8 million to replace existing signs and improve signs guiding traffic around the campus, said Phil Howard, vice president of facilities service for GRU. The money will come from accumulated funds from the margin allocation that the health system transfers to the university every year and some directly from the health system, he said.
Officials have said they had money set aside for new signs before the Medical College of Georgia became Georgia Health Sciences University in 2011, but held off once consolidation began to be discussed.
Design work for the new GRU signs still needs finalizing, probably in late September, and then the projects can be put out to bid, Howard said. Changing all of the signs will be spread out over two fiscal years, he said.
