Internet sales tax easily passes Senate; tougher fight ahead in House – Atlanta Business Chronicle

Sales taxes are coming to most Internet purchases, if the Senate has its way.

The Senate passed the Marketplace Fairness Act Monday evening by a 69-27 vote. Passage was no surprise, since the legislation had easily cleared procedural hurdles before the Senate went home for a week-long break.

Georgia Republican Sens. Johnny Isakson and Saxby Chambliss voted for the tax.

The bill faces an uphill battle in the House, however.
