Take a look at the rest of the article, and let me know what’s missing.

Here is a glossary of positions usually found in statewide and national political campaigns, as well as in some larger local campaigns. In smaller, local campaigns, several of these responsibilities may be combined under one staffer.

Campaign manager

The campaign manager ostensibly is responsible for all aspects of the campaign, but the role takes on different functions depending on the candidate and the progress of the campaign. In the initial stages, the manager usually helps with campaign strategy and planning. That role shifts more toward implementation of strategy as the campaign moves forward.

Generally, campaign managers have pre-existing relationships with candidates and share a political ideology and sense of how campaigns should be run.

Key qualities: Mutual trust with the candidate and the abilities to delegate and deliver bad and good news.

General consultant

This is the hired gun. The general consultant helps develop and implement strategies when it comes to fundraising, campaign events, media relations, media buys and — most important of all — the message that will get the candidate elected. They have to see the whole field and make the right calls at the right time.

Key qualities: Experience, brains and backbone. This job is not for the meek. It is all about making decisions and being accountable, often on the fly.
