Atlanta Braves to close on land deal in Cobb Co. – Rome News-Tribune: Local

MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) — The Atlanta Braves are very close to closing on land to build a new stadium in the city’s northwest suburbs.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the team is expected to close on the land in Cobb County on Friday.

The newspaper reports that the Braves would pay about $34.2 million — $600,000 per acre — for a 57.1-acre parcel of property near Cumberland Mall. The team has held an option since last fall to buy the land from Bethesda, Md.-based real-estate firm B.F. Saul Co.

In November, the Cobb County Commission approved a new $672 million stadium, which officials hope to open for the 2017 season.
