Fresh off his unexpectedly wide victory in the U.S. Senate race, David Perdue talked this week about his hopes to cut taxes on businesses and his move from the corporate world to government.
Perdue, 64, was born in Macon and raised in Warner Robins. A cousin of former Gov. Sonny Perdue, he ran for the seat being vacated by Sen. Saxby Chambliss, who didn’t seek re-election. Perdue, a Republican, captured 53 percent of the vote against Democrat Michelle Nunn, who received 45 percent, with Libertarian candidate Amanda Swafford snagging the remaining 2 percent.
Since Tuesday night’s win, he’s been busy preparing for the new job.
“I’m drinking from a fire hose right now,” Perdue said.
In an interview with The Telegraph, Perdue discussed corporate taxes, his hoped-for committee assignments, preparations for taking a Senate seat and the moment he knew he was going to Washington.
“It’s a sobering responsibility,” he said of his new role as a U.S. senator, “and I fully intend to represent every individual in the state of Georgia.”
