ATLANTA (AP) – Three years after the U.S. government pledged billions of dollars for a nuclear plant in Georgia, Southern Co. and its partners haven’t closed the deal.

President Barack Obama’s administration recently agreed to once again extend a deadline for agreeing on the lending terms for a first-of-its-kind nuclear plant in the state.

Under the plan, the government would provide $8.3 billion in low-interest lending to the utilities who own the new reactors at Plant Vogtle.
