US DOJ proposed Georgia federal election calendar for 2014

In the proceedings on the UOCAVA suit seeking to prevent Georgia from holding runoffs elections too early to comply with the requirement that ballots be sent to overseas citizens and servicemembers at least 45 days before a federal election, the United States Department of Justice has proposed the following schedule for Georgia’s 2014 elections for United State Senate and Congress.

Primary held on Tuesday, June 3, 2014
Primary runoff held on Tuesday, August 5, 2014
General Election on November 4, 2014
General runoff on Tuesday, January 6, 2015

The lawsuit only covers federal elections, and not the state elections to be held in 2014, but it’s unlikely the Georgia General Assembly would be willing to hold two sets of runoff elections, one for state and local offices and one for federal.
