Cannons thundered on the hour Saturday at the first Civil War Experience held in Rincon.
The day-long event featured Civil War re-enactors from the local Sons of Confederate Veterans, Camp Davis, along with re-enactors from Claxton, Augusta and South Carolina. The ladies of the United Daughters of the Confederacy were also on hand in period dress. An encampment filled one portion of the large field next to Lowe’s and behind event sponsor Fuller Chevrolet. The land was recently purchased by the city of Rincon and will also be the site of the next Oktoberfest.
Vendors were on site offering a variety of items, including information, home baked goods, kettle corn, art work, face painting and more.
Effingham County Chamber of Commerce Director Rick Lott said he was pleased with the day.
