The Wayne County Board of Education plans to make sure that local voters know why the Board supports renewal of the school system’s E-SPLOST (special purpose local option sales tax for education).

The proposed renewal would help pay for construction of new Odum and Martha Rawls Smith elementary schools, awould fund new buses and new technology, and would reimburse the school system for the final portion of the cost of new Jesup Elementary School construction.

The E-SPLOST referendum will be on the ballot Nov. 5, and voter registration for the election will end Oct. 7.

The tax renewal will be the only question on the county ballot in November, though Screven is also scheduled to have a city election that day.

School Superintendent Daryl Fineran told the school board Tuesday night that he plans to revive the Children First committee, which helped “sell” the current E-SPLOST.
