Sen. Butch Miller Visits Three Hall County Learning Centers in Recognition of Georgia Pre-K Week
Sen. Butch Miller (R- Gainesville) visited three area schools during the fourth annual Georgia Pre-K Week, an event celebrating early learning and literacy initiatives. Students and teachers at the World Language Academy in Flowery Branch, the Academy Child Development Center in Oakwood, and New Holland Elementary in Gainesville welcomed Sen. Miller as a special guest reader in the schools’ Pre-K classes. This year’s Georgia Pre-K Week kicked off on Monday, October 6, and will conclude tomorrow, Friday, October 10.
“Georgia’s Pre-K programs provide a solid educational foundation for our youngest Georgians and prepare them for future learning success. It was a pleasure to spend time with the staff and students at World Language Academy, the Academy Child Development Center, and New Holland Elementary School this week,” said Sen. Miller.
Sponsored by Voices for Georgia’s Children and Pre-K partners throughout the state, Georgia Pre-K Week focuses on the important role of Georgia’s Pre-K program on future academic achievement. While visiting each Pre-K center, Sen. Miller participated in a reading activity with the children and visited with staff members and school administrators; allowing him to receive an up-close look at the many ways these centers are supporting early learning initiatives.
“Georgia’s nationally recognized Pre-K program supports a critical developmental milestone each year for 84,000 four-year-olds,” said Pat Willis, Executive Director of Voices for Georgia’s Children, a child advocacy organization. “Our state’s outstanding Pre-K program and other health and early learning programs work together to help children read to learn by third grade.”
Sen. Miller’s co-workers at Milton Martin Honda also celebrated Georgia Pre-K Week by reading in more than 20 Hall County classrooms throughout the week. Over 140 state officials visited and read to classes at nearly 500 Pre-K learning centers in all 159 counties across Georgia to commemorate this year’s event.
