School Wants ‘Bully’ Parents To Pay $9K In Court Costs | Fox5Atlanta

The Murray County school district is seeking more than $9,000 from the parents of a teenager who lost a lawsuit claiming that their 17-year-old son killed himself because school administrators had failed to protect him from school bullies.

School district lawyers sought to recoup the costs after parents Tina and David Long lost their appeal last month of a 2012 decision by Judge Harold Murphy of the Northern District of Georgia that dismissed their case.

The story of the Longs’ son, Tyler, received national attention last year in the documentary Bully.

This is the second time that the school district has sought to collect costs associated with its defense. Last year, after throwing out the Longs’ suit, Murphy ordered the couple to pay more than $20,000 in costs incurred by the school district during the litigation.
