Savannah Childrens Museum added to city’s SPLOST list | savannahnow.com

Funding for the next phase of a children’s museum is in, while the budgets for drainage and Bacon Park community center have been cut, on Savannah’s latest list of projects for November’s sales-tax referendum.

Since the last city council meeting on Sept. 5, when an intergovernmental agreement with Chatham County was approved to hold the referendum, $1.5 million for the museum was added at the request of Alderwoman Mary Ellen Sprague.

To cover that amount, $750,000 budgeted for a neighborhood center for Bacon Park was eliminated. The budget for two drainage box rehabilitation projects was also reduced from $10 million to $9,310,000, and the $60,000 set aside to remove the Lowes, Applebee’s and Plantation Oaks area from a flood zone was cut.

The city council is scheduled to approve a resolution in support of the list today after insisting during the last meeting that they wanted to make it clear to voters what projects would be funded and how much would be budgeted for those projects.
