RN-T.com – Tennis Center jail fixes gain ground as SPLOST committee homes in on final recommendation

As the countdown continues for the 2013 SPLOST package to be finalized, the focus is shifting to making decisions on which projects should make the cut.

The Rome-Floyd SPLOST Citizens Advisory Committee has spent the last four months being educated on the requirements for a 1-cent special purpose, local option sales tax, and hearing more than 40 presentations on proposed projects.

Now, after beginning the process of forming their recommendation to local governments at last week’s meeting, the group is analyzing each of the remaining items and could have a final list ready at its next meeting Thursday night.

“We said we wanted to have our recommendation ready Aug. 1 and next Thursday will be it,” committee chairman David Newby said. “We have vetted things very well and … once we make this recommendation, this is the SPLOST that we will support.”
