PPP Poll shows tight race between Nathan Deal and Jason Carter | Political Insider | www.ajc.com

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed isn’t the only one who thinks state Sen. Jason Carter’s flirtations with a gubernatorial bid should be taken seriously.

Better Georgia, a left-leaning guerilla group, commissioned a Public Policy Polling survey of 602 registered Georgia voters this week that found Carter and Gov. Nathan Deal are running nearly neck-and-neck. Executive director Bryan Long, who tweeted #RunJasonRun earlier this week, said he ordered the poll after reading the news that Democrats in Washington in Georgia commissioned a survey to test Carter’s popularity.

So this isn’t the survey that Carter would base his decision on.

The results from the Democratic-leaning North Carolina firm have Deal at 44 percent and Carter, the grandson of the former president, at 40 percent. Women voters form the basis of Carter’s support – 43 percent of female voters would vote for Carter over 37 percent for Deal in a hypothetical matchup.
