POLITICAL NOTEBOOK: P.K. Martin fills campaign coffers in Senate race | Gwinnett Daily Post

With the election about five months away, P.K. Martin said he is getting a lot of support in his race for the state Senate.

Martin, the former Lawrenceville councilman, raised $31,000 from 95 contributors prior to the Dec. 31 reporting deadline. He has nearly $29,000 cash on hand for the campaign against long-term Sen. Don Balfour, who is returning to the General Assembly after being declared not guilty on criminal charges last month in a per diem scandal.

“I am thrilled by the success we have had so far this early in the campaign,” Martin said. “It is truly an honor to have the trust and support of so many people. The fact that nearly 100 people have donated to my campaign proves that people of Senate District 9 are ready for a new direction. The people are tired of the negative headlines about elected leaders who skirt around the law and hide behind excuses. They are ready for an ethical conservative leader who will lead by example and make us proud. I am going to continue to work tirelessly everyday to earn the trust and support of the people of this district and restore trust and honor to the office.”

Martin added that he did not take out any loans.
