Road show coming to Classic Center highlights alternative fuels | Online Athens

Georgians interested in alternative energy forms, or just curious about cars that run on electricity and natural gas, will have a chance to learn and ask questions as the third-annual Alternative Fueled Vehicle Roadshow comes to a town near them.

During June, the tour will visit eight cities for a series of three-hour discussions and vehicle demonstrations for fleet managers at private companies and local governments. Each stop is free and open to the public, but registration is required at www.afvroadshow.com.

The tour comes to Athens’ Classic Center 1-4 p.m. June 3.

Public Service Commissioner Tim Echols organizes the tours with invitations to drivers of alternative-fuel vehicles as well as companies that provide the cars and the fuel. The discussions will include examples of how fleet owners have converted to different fuels.

Echols used to drive a natural-gas-powered car himself, and he convinced Commissioner Chuck Eaton to buy an electric Chevy Volt.
