At Thursday’s mayoral debate at the Douglass Theatre, moderator Charles Richardson and former Macon Mayor C. Jack Ellis drew some laughs when Ellis told those in attendance that he supported getting a casino as a means for economic development.
Richardson, who kept candidates on a strict 45-second response time limit, broke in, asking if Ellis meant a casino or fellow candidate David Cousino, who was sitting next to Ellis on stage. Cousino smiled and waved.
Ellis laughed and playfully demanded “his 10 seconds back” for his response.
Later in the debate, Richardson cut in when Ellis was speaking out of order. But Ellis said he was simply trying to get a refill of some of the “great-tasting water” Macon produces.
