State Rep. Rusty Kidd did not intend to get any recognition for his recent contribution to Georgia Military College.

The anonymous donation to the health and wellness center under construction was initially supposed to remain secret.

But due to the significance of the undisclosed amount, GMC plans to recognize the contributions from four generations of his family by naming the new facility The Kidd Center.

“The family’s unwavering loyalty and commitment to GMC over the years make this donation particularly special,” retired Maj. Gen. Peter J. Boylan, GMC’s president emeritus, said in a news release.

The designation will honor the Milledgeville representative’s late grandmother Tillie S. Kidd; his father, the late state Sen. Culver Kidd; sisters Kathy Kidd Marbutt and Candy Kidd; and his children, Katherine and Culver Kidd IV.

Kidd, who was paralyzed from the chest down in a 1999 motorcycle accident, remains a strong proponent of physical fitness.

“No matter what our age, weight or health, exercise is the key to our physical and mental well-being,” said Kidd, who attended GMC grammar school. “I truly believe that a healthy body contributes greatly to a healthy mind. And healthy bodies and minds are what the new Kidd Center will provide to GMC students.”
