Consolidating the city and county governments has come up for discussion from time-to-time over the years. The idea has even gone before the voters at least twice, but never passed, according to Douglas County Commission Chairman Tom Worthan.
But after getting an update from County Administrator Eric Linton at Monday’s work session on where talks are with the city of Douglasville on the service delivery strategy, consolidation was again on the minds of several commissioners.
“If there’s ever been a good example of a place to consolidate, it’s Douglas County,” Worthan said. “Basically we have one city within the county. Are they duplicating services? You betcha they are.”
Worthan said he would support letting the citizens vote again on consolidating the governments.
