PERRY — Perry City Council members are contemplating a new strategy to reduce blight in the city: They’ll tax some of it away.
On Nov. 18, City Council will consider its final reading of an ordinance that would increase the city’s portion of a tax bill sevenfold as an incentive for property owners to clean up vacant, blighted buildings.
The city would have to prove to a judge that the property is vacant. Houses used as a person’s main home could not face the higher taxes.
