The Army’s No. 2 civilian leader is planning to visit the Port of Savannah next week.
The Army Corps of Engineers says Under Secretary Joseph Westphal has scheduled a tour of the nation’s fourth-busiest container port Wednesday and plans a news conference afterward. The Army Corps is in charge of a $652 million project to deepen 30 miles of the Savannah River to make room for larger cargo ships traveling between the Savannah port and the Atlantic Ocean.
