The governor addressed the issue at an 11 a.m. press conference to announce an executive order aimed at tamping down Republican concerns over Common Core standards for public schools. Said Deal on the Bible issue:

“Our commissioner took that as a pre-emptive effort to try to avoid litigation. I’ve been in contact with our attorney general’s office. I do not favor the removal of Bibles from these public facilities in the state of Georgia.

“It is our intention, based on the guidance that we will be given by the attorney general, to replace those Bibles in those facilities. I think it will happen rather quickly.”
