Michelle Nunn announces run for Senate | Online Athens

Michelle Nunn announced this morning her intention to seek the seat once held by her father, U.S. Sen. Sam Nunn.

CEO of the Points of Light Foundation, a nonprofit that provides resources to volunteers, Michelle Nunn made the announcement in an email sent to supporters and media.

“I’m running for Senate because I’ve seen firsthand the power of citizens to make a difference in their own lives and the lives of those around them,” Nunn said referring to her charity work. “We need to put our faith in the power of individuals to join together to address our problems.”

Nunn, in her announcement, acknowledged her father’s service with the caveat that “the Washington that my father worked in not so long ago is a place that just doesn’t exist anymore. Instead of searching for common ground and working together to create solutions, too often our political leaders are simply trying to win the latest battle. Meanwhile, we are running up our national debt and failing to make tough choices to secure our economic future.”
