Canton Police have taken felony warrants against Cherokee County Post 1 School Board Member Kelly Marlow and her political consultant, Robert Trim, for their alleged part in a false report of a crime.
Marlow and Trim turned themselves in to police at 8 a.m., Saturday, July 6. A spokesperson for Canton Police said both posted bond and were released two hours later.
Police issued felony warrants for Marlow, Trim and resident Barbara Knowles on July 5 after an investigation into whether the Superintendent of Schools Frank Petruzielo tried to strike them with his car following a heated school board meeting on June 13.
Ofc. Pacer Cordry, public information officer with the Canton Police Department, said Knowles, Marlow and Trim reported that they had almost been struck by a white BMW outside of the Painted Pig Tavern in Canton.
“Knowles admittedly said that they crossed the street illegally and not in a crosswalk,” Cordry said.
Trim and Marlow reportedly also told police that the incident occurred when, in fact, investigators have concluded that it was fabricated.
After a several-week investigation into the incident, Canton Police took warrants July 5 against Marlow and Trim for making false statements to police, a felony offense. Warrants were also taken for Knowles for falsely reporting a crime, a misdemeanor, and making false statements.
