Karen Handel: Releases Five Years of Tax Returns, Challenges Opponents To Follow Suit

HANDEL RELEASES FIVE YEARS OF TAX RETURNS, CHALLENGES OPPONENTS TO FOLLOW SUIT

The Handel for Senate Campaign made available Karen Handel’s tax returns from the last five years and called upon the other candidates in the race to do the same.

“Throughout her career, Karen has been a leader in ethics reform and government transparency,” said campaign manager Corry Bliss. “In an effort to promote government transparency, The Handel for Senate Campaign is making available the last five years of Karen’s tax returns and challenging all other US Senate campaigns to do the same today.”

As Georgia’s first elected Republican Secretary of State, Karen set limits on gifts to employees (including herself), established a nepotism policy to address cronyism, and required a one-year “cooling off” period before employees could take lobbying positions with companies seeking to do business with the agency he or she worked for previously. Under Karen’s leadership, the Secretary of State’s office also became the first “completely transparent” agency in state government by giving citizens access to all agency revenues and expenses online.

While serving as Fulton County Commission Chairman, Handel secured passage of comprehensive ethics reform, and gained statewide and national attention by leading the effort to remove the corrupt sheriff from office after an audit revealed millions in missing and misappropriated funds.
