Gwinnett Citizens SPLOST Committee Makes Recommendations – Government – Suwanee, GA Patch

There’s less than a month before Gwinnett County voters will decide whether to renew the SPLOST. And a special citizens committee has made recommendations on how to divvy up funds if they are approved.

According to the Gwinnett County website, the six-member citizen panel has recommended that the largest chunk of initial proceeds — $47.6 million — be allocated to a “major roads” category. Intersections come in second, at $33 million.

On Nov. 5, Gwinnett County voters will go to the ballot box to decide whether to renew the current 1 percent Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, for three years. That would keep Gwinnett County sales taxes at 6 percent.

Officials with the county and its cities have said they intend to use a large percentage of SPLOST proceeds for transportation projects.
