Judge orders new election for Macon-Bibb District 2

A Superior Court judge on Tuesday ordered a new election for the disputed Macon-Bibb District Two commission race.

Senior Judge Stephen E. Boswell said he didn’t have a choice but to order a new election because the margin of victory is less than the number of voters who weren’t allowed to vote.

Henry Ficklin challenged the results after losing to Larry Schlesinger in the runoff election by 26 votes.

Ficklin’s attorneys said, and Macon-Bibb Board of Elections officials agreed, that at least 50 people in an east Macon apartment complex were forced to vote in the District 3 race, even though they live in Ficklin’s district.
