The city of Hoschton will vote at 6 p.m. Monday on a 2014 budget that includes fewer expenses than the 2013 budget and is anticipated to include more revenue.

Total expenses come to $218,989.72, down from the total of $284,730.50 in 2013. Net ordinary income increased from $168,115.84 to an anticipated $252,630.06 in 2014. The budget was presented to the council last week.

“I’m really excited for a successful 2014,” Mayor Theresa Kenerly said.

Among the changes, city leaders anticipate generating more money from cemetery lot sales but less from land disturbance permits and franchise taxes.

The Georgia Department of Transportation Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant will increase from $14,109.08 in 2013 to $17,027.78 in 2014. There is banked money for road projects, but it has to be met with a 30 percent local match.

Municipal court expenses are anticipated to increase significantly for 2014 — from $900 to $2,000. Kenerly mentioned that Hoschton is in need of a quarterly court to occur when residents are issued citations but, if there are no citations, no court date will be needed. The $2,000 will include a municipal court judge and solicitor, but costs for computer, software and office supplies cannot yet be determined.
