LAWRENCEVILLE — By next fall, the first nursing students at Georgia Gwinnett College should be walking the campus.
The school announced on Thursday that the Georgia Board of Nursing approved the development of GGC’s degree program in nursing, which was previously approved by the University System of Georgia Board of Regents. Diane White, dean of the School of Health Sciences, said the approval means the college can begin recruiting students.
“There is an increased need for baccalaureate-prepared nurses and GGC is poised to meet this need,” White said in a press release. “I am excited to have the opportunity to design a bachelor’s degree nursing program from the beginning.”
The school said it received inquiries about the program since White was hired late last year. White came to GGC from Georgia Perimeter College, where she has served as dean of Health Sciences since 2009.
