SAVANNAH – About 100 members of the Georgia Army National Guard are back home following a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan.
Family and friends greeted members of the 179th Military Police Company during a welcoming ceremony in Savannah on Friday.
Army Spc. Steve Weber had never met his 2-month-old son because he was serving in the war. He stared at the child after taking him from wife Jannah Weber for the first time.
“It’s everything,” Weber said, trying to find the words to describe the moment. “I don’t I’ve been looking forward to this day for a while now. Now that’s it’s here, it’s just amazing.”
