TIFTON, GA (WALB) – If you’re still confused about the Affordable Care Act and how the online market place works, you are not alone.

On Monday, a free community lecture at the Tift Regional Community Events Center brought out a crowd of close to one hundred people.

Time is ticking and if people miss the deadline later in December, they won’t be able to begin receiving health coverage until March.

After getting off to a rough start the affordable care act web site is fully functional but misunderstood by many and the deadline to sign up for coverage won’t be extended further.

“The site is up and working some of the glitches have been worked out, the deadline has been extended to December 23rd, once you’ve selected your option and made your first payment you can have coverage by January 14th,” said UGA extension service spokesperson Kim Wyche.

Folks eager to learn about insurance options under Obamacare packed the center asking questions, and watching a power point to inform them of how to sign up.

“Most of the people are a little concerned about some of the penalties, and not knowing that you can be eligible for some exemptions,” said Wyche.

Exemptions that could prove especially beneficial if you’re a small business owner exploring other options for your employees.

“Basically I can allow my employees to go online to the marketplace and you know shop the market place and see what kind of rates they could get,” said small business owner Deidra Baerwald.
