Cherokee Tribune – Judge rules Laughridge eligible to run

A state of Georgia judge has ruled that Matt Laughridge is eligible to run in the Nov. 5 special election to replace Barry Loudermilk (R-Cassville) in the state Senate.

The Georgia Secretary of State has the final say and the ruling will go to his office.

Deputy Chief Judge Michael Malihi of the Georgia Office of Administrative Hearings ruled Thursday morning that Laughridge, a 25-year-old Bartow County candidate, was legally eligible to seek the office, after Canton resident Garrett Jamieson filed a complaint alleging that his candidacy was in violation of the state’s Constitution.

The complaint filed with the Secretary of State’s Office in September alleged that Laughridge wasn’t legally eligible because he had not lived in District 14 for a full year, as required by Georgia’s Constitution.
