Adoptable Georgia Dogs for October 18, 2013

Scooby (above) and Lucy (below) have stories typical of many you’ll see in the shelters – they were given up by an owner who could no longer afford to care for them and the dogs will be euthanized unless a foster or adoptive home(s) is found.

Number 35250 is a gorgeous, young female German Shepherd who was found wandering stray and is available for adoption from Gwinnett County Animal Shelter.

Number 35251 is an adult, female Black Lab who is friendly and available for adoption from the Gwinnett County Animal Shelter in Lawrenceville, Ga.

Often dogs wind up in shelters and euthanized because their owners could no longer afford their care and feeding.

Daffy’s Pet Soup Kitchen, an all-volunteer organization in Lawrenceville, Ga, supplies free pet food to families who cannot afford it due to financial issues.

In 2010, Daffy’s distributed more than a million pounds of pet food to 1500 families in need and assisted in 2500 neuter/spay operations.

On Saturday, October 26th, Daffy’s Day will be held at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds to benefit Daffy’s Pet Soup Kitchen and the Hungry Pets Club. Admission is free, but they’re asking for a donation of pet food. It looks like a fun event and a Car, Truck, and Bike show will be held in conjunction with Daffy’s Day.

Daffy’s also accepts donations online and is seeking sponsors in Gwinnett County.

For low-cost veterinary care, WellPet Humane in Chamblee offers low-cost services to people who cannot afford the care their pets need. They offer services to individuals who meet their economic criteria or are referred by veterinarians, as well as walk-in services and a low-cost vaccine clinic. The vaccine clinic is great because you save money, it’s convenient, and the proceeds help fund the charitable mission of WellPet Humane.

You can donate online to help save pets who might otherwise be euthanized because of the cost of their care. Many for-profit vet clinics also have in-house charitable programs, either formal or informal. Next time you have your pets at the vet, ask if they have a program – you can probably add a donation to charitable services when you’re paying your own pet’s bill.
