WARNER ROBINS — Mike Brashear, who landed fifth in the Warner Robins mayoral race, said he will support Randy Toms in the Dec. 3 runoff against Joe Musselwhite.

“I’ve known Randy Toms for about 15 years now, and he’s become a very close friend of mine,” Brashear said, adding he met Toms through church.

Still, a recount of the votes could change everything. Councilman Daron Lee, who received just 45 fewer votes than Musselwhite on Tuesday, said Wednesday he would seek a recount of votes after finding discrepancies in the reported results. Election Superintendent Kathy Cummings called a recount out of an “abundance of caution,” noting no errors were suspected or found.

If it results in a runoff between Toms and Lee, Brash-ear said he’ll have to review his options.

“I like a lot of (Lee’s) experience: his interactions with other agencies around the midstate region and so forth,” Brashear said. “So, if that became the case, I would have to really, seriously think.”

Chuck Chalk, who landed fourth in the mayoral race, said almost immediately after the race was called he would back Toms. Contacted Wednesday about the possible change in runoff contenders, Chalk said he will discuss whether his endorsement could be affected if that happens.

Lee also said he will hold off an endorsement discussion until after the recount.
