Bibb County Sheriff David Davis has called in the GBI for assistance in investigating allegations that state Sen. David Lucas choked a 14-year-old autistic boy during a campaign event for his wife, Macon Councilwoman Elaine Lucas.
In a Friday news release, Davis said that while he has “the utmost confidence in the unbiased skills of the Bibb Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division,” he thinks the case would be best served with an outside agency working with his investigators, given the political nature of the incident.
Elaine Lucas is running against Terry Tripp for the District 3 Commission seat for the new Macon-Bibb County consolidated government.
According to a sheriff’s report, during a Wednesday campaign event for Elaine Lucas at the Lakeview Apartments clubhouse at 2800 Masseyville Road, members of Tripp’s family were there and got into a verbal altercation with Lenny Lucas, the son of David and Elaine Lucas.
As Lenny Lucas allegedly took his shirt off to get into a fight with Chandler King, 16, David Lucas said he tried to act as a peacemaker and restrain his son.
While that took place, Chase King, 14, somehow got mixed up in the dispute, and that’s when Kinya Miller — King’s mother and Tripp’s daughter — accused David Lucas of putting his hands around her child’s throat, according to the incident report.
Lucas denied the accusation, saying he began to lose his temper and was restrained by other people at the event.
