Bibb commissioners approve tentative budget | Politics | Macon.com

Bibb County commissioners Wednesday unanimously approved a tentative $86.8 million fiscal 2014 budget that doesn’t call for an increase in the millage rate.

The budget includes a projected $7.7 million deficit, down from a projected $19 million deficit when commissioners and staff began the budget process last month.

Though Commission Chairman Sam Hart said after the meeting that he had hoped the deficit would be in the range of $4 million, he noted the county is facing additional expenses because of the consolidation of Macon and Bibb County as well as certain state mandates, such as adding a second State Court judge.

“We did the best we could,” Hart said.

County Finance Director Debra Martin told commissioners before the vote that she couldn’t find any other expenses for them to chop from the budget.
