May 1, 2013 ATHENS-CLARKE COUNTY GOP LEADERS SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT, CLEAR PADGETT’S NAME
(Athens, GA) – In response to Georgia GOP Chairman candidate BJ Van Gandy’s unfounded accusations and inferences regarding John Padgett’s role in incidents that occurred during the 2012 Athens-Clarke County Republican Party Convention, Clarke County GOP Chairman Matt Brewster and Precinct 5C Secretary Carter Kessler issued the following statements:
“Several unfortunate events took place during the 2012 Athens-Clarke County Republican Party Convention,” said Chairman Matt Brewster. “But since that time, it has become abundantly clear to me that instead of fighting and quarreling amongst ourselves, we should fight as one to defeat liberal candidates and causes in our county and beyond.”
“Chairman Matt Brewster ran an excellent convention in Clarke County this year”, said Carter Kessler. “After speaking with Matt, I am confident that we will continue to work together to protect the Constitution, promote liberty, prosperity, and personal freedom.”
“Carter and I both hope that no one will misconstrue the events during the 2012 Clarke County Republican Party Convention and place blame on John Padgett,” said Brewster. “John was serving our county as a delegate and had no responsibilities outside of that role. People who suggest otherwise are simply wrong.”
“It is sad that some in the political arena would attempt to use these unfortunate events for their own personal gain. The Athens-Clarke County Republican Party continues to work together and we will not let the unfounded accusations of malicious candidates erode our bond or distract us from our efforts to defeat the liberal agenda and advance the conservative cause.”
