Ash is a wonderful young pup. Rescued from an animal control before being euthanized for space, we brought Ash to the safety of our shelter. He was a staff favorite and the staff was so happy that we pulled him and brought him to the safety of our shelter.
Ash is about a year old. He looks to be a Labrador/Chesapeake Bay retriever mix, but he’s a lot smaller than these breeds usually are. At a year old, he only weighs 35 lbs. and doesn’t look like he’s going to grow much bigger. Ash has the sweetness and happy-go-lucky demeanor of a lab though. He loves people, dogs and cats. He is easy-going, friendly, affectionate and athletic. He loves playing fetch and brings the ball back for endless fun and games. Ash has a gorgeous rich red/brown colored double coat. He has warm brown eyes and a happy smile. He is an affectionate, confident and well-mannered dog. Ash is potty-trained. He travels well in a car. He walks great on a leash. He loves adventures and his quiet confidence and friendliness make him an easy takealong dog. Ash will be a great hiking or running buddy. He will do great in a family with kids. He’ll do well with another dog in the home. This boy is a gem. He has it all, everything except a family of his own. If looking for a great young pup to welcome to your heart and home, Ash may be the one. He is so precious and adorable.
We rescued gorgeous Reba from a high-kill shelter. This girl is such a keeper! She is at the top of our sweetest dogs list! She is a lovely and charming pup. Reba is about seven years old and looks to have some fox hound or maybe some beagle in her. She is sweet and affectionate, and very confident. As she has settled in with us, she has found her hound voice! She loves people and will most likely be great with kiddos as well. She gives slow motion hugs and doggie kisses. She loves other dogs and we’ll test for kitties. Reba is full of energy and loves to walk. When she was getting her glamour shots taken, she wanted to go for a car ride with our photographer. She loves car rides!
Most likely Reba found herself at a kill shelter and was overlooked by adopters because of her heartworms. Heartworms are easily prevented. But once contracted the treatment is expensive and so many good dogs end up being euthanized because of them. Having met Reba, we can’t see any other reason why this beautiful young dog would be at risk. She has wonderful manners, she’s great with everyone she meets, she loves other dogs, and she has a bright and sunny personality. She even seems house-trained. We’ll get Reba’s heartworms treated and we’ll work with her adopter through treatment if she’s adopted before her treatment ends. For the near future, Reba is relegated to leash walks and quiet strolls, which she enjoys immensely. She enjoys exploring and everything is so much fun. Her energy and optimism are contagious.
This handsome boy is River. River came to us from a hoarding situation nearly a year ago. Found living in filth as a young pup, River, his mama Faith, and six puppies were rescued and surrendered to our shelter. Fantastic Faith is still looking for a home and River is now ready to find his furever loving home too. River was petrified when he first arrived. He’d run from his own shadow. Should anyone even look at him, he’d cower and run away. BUT, thanks to our staff and volunteers, River has developed a lot more confidence and is ready to experience a loving home.
River is a gorgeous red German shepherd mix. He’s about 18 months old. He is super sweet. He LOVES people he trusts. He has the gentlest of personalities. He tries so hard to be brave. For the person or family who is patient with him and helps him transition, they are going to be rewarded with a companion for life. River loves with his whole heart. River will absolutely need a containment fence. He is scared of so many things; running is his first reaction. River likes other dogs. He loves his mama, Faith. If they could be adopted together, that would be the biggest blessing, but he can stand on his own too. Another dog to show him the ropes and give him comfort would be a benefit to him. River loves to play.
River would do best in a quiet home, with experienced dog owners. Only gentle guidance for this boy. Anything more and he’ll shut down or run away. River is in no way aggressive, it’s just that life must be taken slower to let him catch up with his new world. He went on his first car ride the other day. Once in the car, he was great. He was treated to a hamburger, which he loved. For the person who adopts River, showing River all the good things, that life can offer, like love, kindness, comfy beds, toys, soft voices, treats, peace and quiet, will be a wonderful bonding and richly rewarding experience. This boy has a piece of our hearts at the shelter. To see where he came from, to the incredible young dog he is today, fills us with joy. There will be no words good enough to see this boy land softly in his forever family.
Faith is a gorgeous red Kelpie/shepherd mix. She was found living in a hoarder’s house. She was desperately trying to raise her puppies surrounded by filth, with no food and kindness. She was surrendered to us with six puppies in tow. She was a good mom, raising her pups beautifully and lovingly. Faith’s puppies have found their furever homes. Now it’s Faith’s turn to get her second chance.
Faith is about four years old. She has a pretty, light red coat and warm amber eyes. She is medium in size. Our staff and volunteers have done an incredible job with Faith, showing her unending love and attention. She was so scared when she arrived and to see her now, embracing our staff and volunteers in gentle hugs, we know that she is ready to lavish her love on a kind and caring person/family. Faith is friendly, affectionate, outgoing, calm, gentle and quiet. She has grown in confidence. She is learning some tricks. She walks easily on a leash. She has shown us her playful side. She loves being in the fresh air and play yards. She is loving and affectionate with those she trusts. Faith enjoys traveling in a car, especially to her favorite lunch place. She loves attention and thrives under the adoring kindness shown to her.
Faith is a smart girl and learns quickly. We think she is most likely house-trained. She will do well with positive reinforcement. Faith will need a containment fenced yard to safely run around and enjoy the fresh air. But she must live as an indoor dog. Faith is selective about other dogs, but this may be the isolation and desperation she experienced early on. Once a shelter dog is given time to decompress and live a more normal and quiet life, this may change. Faith is a beautiful and lovely dog who just needs a second chance.
