Activists assail Hudgens on Obamacare – Atlanta Business Chronicle

Georgia Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens should stop trying to block Obamacare and help Georgians obtain the benefits of the health-care reform law, members of labor and liberal activist groups said Thursday.

“The dispute over health-care reform has been settled,” DeLane Adams, communications director for the Georgia AFL-CIO, said during a news conference outside the state office building housing Hudgens’ office. “It is now law.”

The activists and several of their Democratic allies in the General Assembly criticized Hudgens, a Republican, for recent actions and statements aimed at the key portion of Obamacare due to take effect in January: a requirement that all Americans purchase health coverage or pay a penalty.

Earlier this summer, Hudgens asked Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius to delay implementation of the individual mandate, predicting that the law would slap Georgians with massive premium increases.
