The five Carrollton City Council candidates displayed a wide variety of opinions Thursday night on issues that included city pensions, public transportation, job creation and renewal of the 1-cent SPLOST.
All five appeared together at a public forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters Carrollton and Carroll County.
Ward 1 incumbent Councilman Gerald Byrd is being challenged by Anita Jones, an economic developer, while Ward 2 incumbent Mike Patterson faces challenges from Don McKenzie, a retired city official, and Wes Phillips, owner of a paint and body shop.
The election will be held Nov. 5, with early voting starting next Monday. Any runoffs will be held Dec. 3.
The mayor and city council about five years ago approved a pension plan for elected officials under the Georgia Municipal Association. The five candidates differed on their approaches to what they feel should be done.
