Lawmakers Could Set Jekyll Limit | Georgia Public Broadcasting

SAVANNAH, Ga. — Jekyll Island officials are looking into ways of ending a land use fight.

The island’s governing body says it’ll ask state lawmakers next year to set a limit on the number of acres that can be developed.

David Egan of the Initiative to Protect Jekyll Island says a 1971 state law requires 65% of the island to remain natural.

“I think there’s widespread interest in not seeing development go beyond a certain point where it ruins the experience or compromises the experience of visiting Jekyll Island,” says Egan.
