Tangible ESPLOST improvements seemed like a long time coming, and school officials really played it up.

In retrospect, the three years it took to get to Godley Station’s opening day was nothing compared to what it will take to finish the entire ESPLOST I building campaign.

A lot happened between 2007, when ESPLOST I revenue collections began, and 2011, when those collections ended.

An economic downturn, unforeseen construction issues, unusually wet weather and millions of dollars in school board-driven changes resulted in frequent modifications to the long list of promised school improvements.

When the money ran low, some projects had to be deferred and some improvements were cut altogether.

Ultimately, the district delivered $310.6 million worth of improvements, and after seven years, ESPLOST I construction is nearing an end.
