Founder and current coordinator of the Athens-Clark County Tea Party Patriots claims to be running for Chair of the Georgia Democrats.
Keyantwon Stephens, whose facebook “Work and Education” section shows he has been the leader of the Athens Tea Party since April of 2012, also indicates – quite surprisingly – that Stephens is also planning to contend for the leadership of the Democratic Party of Georgia.
In a statement from Stephens he said that his “family roots run deep in the Democratic Party” and that he doesn’t “plan on abandoning the party.” He went on to state that he would “rather educate people within the party and try to get the platform changed.”
Though a non-partisan group, the collective opinion of the Tea Party movements and organizations around the country is quite clearly at odds with the Obama administration and the Democratic Party as a whole. This makes Stephens’ decision a political oddity, especially in Northeast Georgia.
