The University of Georgia Foundation won’t pay for domestic partner benefits, the group announced Monday.
Meeting on St. Simons Island last week, the foundation’s board voted unanimously, with one abstention, that the group should not finance health benefits for unmarried partners or their children.
The board cited two reasons in a news release: Such benefits don’t fall under the mission of the UGA Foundation, and that the foundation is not truly separate from the state, since its fundraising and other operations are carried out or supported by UGA employees.
